For this week’s blog posts, I am showcasing the Simply Zinnias Suite. I will be sharing various ways to use the Zinnia 3D Embossing Folder for your handmade greeting cards. Embossing is the technique of creating a raised image.
With the techniques I am showing you this week, you can do them with any embossing folder.
Floating Technique
For this card I am showing how to create a floating technique. Floating technique is when you put foam adhesive under strips of paper to give the illusion of floating. This same method can be used for the card I have created today with a twist. My floating piece is the embossed image.
Do you see how the embossed image and the strips look like they are floating on the card base? This technique is so simple, and the embossed acetate adds more depth and dimension to the card.

Step-by-Step Instructions
Card base and layers
- Cut a piece of Basic White cardstock 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″
- Cut a piece of Highland Heather to 4″ x 5-1/4″ and using dimensionals add to the card base.
- Next emboss a piece of acetate and cut it down to 3-3/4″ x 5″ and set aside.
Creating the floating piece
- Cut five pieces of designer series paper 1/2″ x 5″ and add dimensionals to each strip.
- Place one of the strips on the bottom of the acetate. Place one on the top of the acetate. Then evenly space the other three strips.
- Now adhere the embossed acetate on the card base.
Stamped image and coloring
- Take a scrap piece of Basic White cardstock and stamp the flower and then stamp the sentiment under it.
- Color in the flower starting with the center. Using dark Petunia Pop blend and then blend with the light Petunia Pop. Next, start adding dark Pretty In Pink blending it in with the Petunia Pop.
- Continue coloring in the flower with the dark Pretty In Pink. Then blend it in with the light Pretty In Pink.
- Adhere this to the card base with liquid glue and adhere three of the Adhesive-Backed Shiny Sequins.
Look at how fabulous this card is! Give this technique a try. Do not forget to come back tomorrow to see the next embossing folder card. Here is a sneak peek of tomorrows card.
