Their home is being prepared to be put in and they have started digging to put the foundation in. 

This has been a long road to travel. My parents have never been ones to buy new items. They always got things from yard sales or second-hand stores. This will be their first brand new home that they picked and designed along with I and my brother’s help.

Picking the home

While my father was in the hospital when the tornado hit, he relied on I and my brother to search for a home for them. We searched many different areas of home building, talked to home construction companies, mom and pop home builders and searched online. We received several different estimates and had dad see what he might be interested in. Mom told us kids whatever we picked out she knew she would love it. Dad on the other hand not so much. He first wanted us to find a home for around $50,000. He soon found out it that was not possible.

Home prices shocker

My father is in disbelief as to how much the prices of a home has gone up. When my parents first married back in the 60’s. Their first home cost them $10,000. For them to pay $100,000.00 for a home is shocking to them. Thank goodness my dad had the best insurance to get this paid.

Home purchased

My father finally settled on having Clayton Homes, the Adrenaline, to build their new home including them building a handicap ramp for those of us family members that are disabled so they can come visit them. The home will come with a washer and dryer, stove, refrigerator, central air and heat, three bedrooms, a man cave just for him. He is liking that, lol!

When their home is complete, they will be buying the furniture, beds and etc. That to will be a sticker shock also to them.
